The best days and the Hardest days

February 24, 2020
Well, I’m not going to lie. Saturday was probably the hardest day of my mission. It started off really well. We went to the temple with the family from Venezuela. They loved the temple so much and I could tell that they could feel the spirit really strong. Then I saw an old friend from Linares. I was confused why he was there. Linares is about three hours away- After the temple I started talking with him and catching up with him. He told me that he has terminal cancer and that he is going to die in about two weeks. He went to the hospital and the doctors said they couldn’t do anything for him so he decided to find all the missionaries that meant the most to him in his life and say goodbye. It was very hard for me to say goodbye to him. He did so much for Hermana Fazakerley and I. I said goodbye to him and he was sobbing and I was sobbing and everyone was crying because we all knew that this was goodbye. He told me how important I was to him and how I shouldn’t ever forget him and to always do my best as a missionary. After that I couldn’t stop crying and it was very hard to work that day. He made adjusting to the mission life very easy. He helped us so much with service activities and opportunities to invite people to come to church. I’m getting better but there are moments when I think about him and get really sad.
I’ll talk about happier things now.
This week one dude literally came up to us asking us if we could help him find God. We’ve taught him a couple lessons now and he is really good! He is really interested in the gospel. Another lady named Adriana asked if we could teach her English! So we had English class and she brought her friends! At the end of the class, Hermana Arnold was talking with Adriana and I was talking with her friends rosa and maria. They asked me if we could come over and share the gospel with them! I set up an appointment and they also wanted to go to the temple too so we set up a time to go too! It was soo cool. We’ve taught Rosa and Maria a couple times now too. We went to the temple and they loved it! Rosa was crying most of the time because she said she felt the spirit so strong. Woot woot
You’ve reached a new low when you have to help people close the door on you. This really old lady was like no I don’t want to hear your message and started closing the door but then the door got stuck so I literally helped her get her door unstuck and close the door on us. It was a win lose situation. Win because I did a service and helped her fix her door, Lose because she closed her door on us.
So Rosa sells desserts and I want to help her! So if you guys have any recipes that are really good please send them! I’ll translate them into Spanish but I would really like your recipes! They don’t have brown sugar here so keep that in mind! Thank you so much for everything! I translated a chocolate cake recipe for her and No bake cookies already and she was so happy when she saw the recipes. If you have more cake recipes or cookies or any dessert, let me know!
When I was feeling really sad about Bernardo I said a prayer of comfort and I instantly felt comfort. I know that our Heavenly Father is always listening to our prayers and when we ask for help he will help us. I know that I will see Bernardo again. I’m so grateful for this gospel because I know that we can live again and have eternal life. Lots of the people here don’t believe in life after death. They think that it is the end. But it’s not. As we strive to live the gospel and follow Jesus Christ we can receive those blessing of happiness. How is everyone_ I’m still going strong. This week has been an emotional rollercoaster but I got through it! With the help of our Heavenly Father we can get through anything!
Don’t forget to send recipes! Thanks!
