I scared our bishop
October 12, 2020
I think I'm going to start putting the highlights of my week in my emails just to bring some light to y'alls day.
1. Our disposal breaking 🤢🤮
2. Studying at the park
3.working in celebration garden!
4.working at the japanese gardens
5. Gyro king
6. I scared our bishop
Well this week was the first week of transfers and really nothing happened.
Our disposal broke this week. And when I mean it broke like it broke and our apartment smelled absolutely terrible. We had the windows open, all the fans going and we were wearing masks and the smell still got worse. We ended up making cookies to try and cover the smell but somehow we messed up making the cookies. I literally know that recipe by heart and we messed up. I'm disappointed in myself. The cookies smelled DISGUSTING. I've never been repulsed by chocolate chip cookies. I didnt even taste em because they smelled so bad. We have no idea what went wrong because we follow the recipe to a T but clearly something was off.
Our disposal is still broken but at least it doesnt smell anymore.
We studied at Herman Park. It was amazing to get outside for once and be seen. Some members found us and sent a photo to our moms. *hope you got it mom. Idk*
Oh at the herman park gardens there is this really big area called the celebration garden but because of covid it has always been blocked off and I've never been inside but finally it opened back up again because someone was having a celebration! Idk what kind of celebration but we got to go in the huge courtyard and work there on Wednesday.
At the japanese gardens we were working on these bushes for the longest time. Like we were digging em up because the soil was bad and they had died so we were redoing the section of land. While we were digging, it started raining. we were soo muddy and dirty from trying to get the bushes out of the ground and plowing the ground to help it be healthier. It was a fun time. Diane *the japanese garden director* was like oh my goodness you guys it's raining! we should probably get covered so yall dont get wet and she turned around and we are already soaked and muddy from working in the rain. She died laughing at us. She was like oooh um I guess yall are fine.
The other set of missionaries in our complex surprised us with Gyro king. Gyro king is a food truck that sells Gyros. By far my favorite food here in texas. The Gyro fries Dish is to die for. If you are ever in Houston I would recommend that you stop by Gyro king.
I'm dead... we went to the church to clean it and we knew that there was a baptism going on so we went through the back door of the church as we were walking down the hall bishop walks out of a classroom and jumps soooo high. He literally just held his heart and just had to breath for a second because he was laughing so hard. Somehow we had scared him walking down the hall. In the light. Like we literally weren't hiding at all. My presence just scares people hahaha.
Well here's a spiritual thought. True happiness comes by making others happy -David o McKay. As a missionary in quarantine we do a lot of service. To us it may not seem like a big deal but to the people we are serving it means the world to them. Christ spent his life in the service of others. He served those that others looked down upon. As missionaries and members of the church we take christ's name upon us. When we follow his example and serve others we can find true happiness.
Love yall! I hope everyone is good. I'm still kicking here in Houston. Oof I forgoooottt. We have a covid outbreak in our mission. Dont panic it's under control. So monday was transfers and 156 missionaries went to the mission office through the day and exchanged cars, sim cards, key, everything and turns out a couple missionaries have covid so anyone who went to the mission office that day is in mandatory 14 day quarantine. My district was lucky in that none of us got transferred so none of us went to the mission office. So life is normal for us here in the McGregor District.
1. I made a sign for the volunteer buckets and all the workers at the garden love it hahah

3.us dying at herman park after trimming bushes for 2 hours

5 celebration garden. Oh I forgot! We went on a walk on saturday in the gardens and turns out the celebration was a wedding! It was a huge ceremony and I was like I hope you appreciate the hedge work in there because I did that. 😂😂 if you dont, sorry to ruin your wedding
