Cityslicker to Cowboy
January 4,2021
New Area! So after 5 transfers in Houston I'm leaving for Richmond. Well I'm supposedly in Richmond but I live in Sugarland so yeah. I'm with Hna Lister! She is amazing. She served in Chile as well but she served in Rancagua. We bond a lot over our time in Chile haha.
We had a good first week here. Lots of calling and driving to explore the area. We are definitely in the country side I went from city slicker to cowboy over night. We mostly have farms, fields, and an unholy amount of cows in our area. Good news is that means everything is really green and beautiful!
We did service at a lady named Heidi's house. She had sooooo many Christmas decorations. It was crazy! She had a 6 foot tall nutcracker and like a dozen more 2 foot tall ones. While we were taking the decor down outside, it was muddy and she didn’t want me to get my shoes muddy so she made me take off her shoes and she gave me her flip flops! I'm a size 9 shoe size and hers were like a 4! It was hilarious.
We have a park next to our house that has alligators at it so we've been spending out free time at that park trying to spot some alligators. Recently it's been to cold for them to come out but I'm still hopeful of seeing one. The alligators aren’t caged. They just walk around the park and you could walk up to them if you wanted too but I ain't about that life.
We found some awesome people this week! So far we haven’t really taught anyone but we are getting there. So we found a lady named Maria who has a ton of faith in Jesus Christ. Her son Ricky was in some kind of accident and has been left bed ridden and all he can do is hear and move his left eye. Maria is his soul caretaker. It's been hard for her but she has used her faith in Jesus Christ and her Christ like love to continue forward.
One amazing experience I had with Maria's son Ricky. We were leaving her house after have an amazing spirit filled first lesson and she asked that we pray around her son. I said the prayer and I didn’t think much of it but when I opened my eyes Ricky (Maria's son) was staring at me. We made eye contact for a second but that one second was long enough for the spirit to testify that Ricky needed that prayer and that he was so grateful for it. He didn’t say anything or make any noises. We simply just made eye contact and the spirit was so strong that I couldn't help but cry because I had never felt some much love and joy for one person. I saw him that day the way our Heavenly Father saw him. It was such an amazing and simple experience. I can’t wait to go back and read the Book of Mormon with them.
Well that's about it! I hope you are all doing well!
